POLICIES
Thank you very much…
…for taking the time to review important policy information. After 30+ years of teaching piano, Jaime has learned a few important lessons that benefit students and teacher. Jaime very much wants ensure her relationship with students and parents is stress-free and fair.
Lesson Schedule and Fees
The way Jaime charges for lessons is with a flat rate structure. Flat rate billing takes the total number of lessons for the whole year and divides by the number of months so that the monthly rate averages out to be the same, regardless of how many lessons are given that month. Every September, Jaime sits down with the calendar and plans the upcoming year. The way the calendar falls with regards to holidays makes each year a bit different. Lessons are not offered on Statutory holidays, spring break and winter break. This is reflected in the fee structure, as you are not charged for those weeks. Therefore, students who have lessons on Mondays pay a lower monthly fee due to the many stat holidays that fall on Mondays.
Monthly fees are due on the first of each month and can be paid via e-transfer.
The tuition paid reserves an exclusive weekly time slot for you or your child for the entire school year. If you miss your lesson, it is not possible for Jaime to “resell” your time slot and it is very difficult to create extra teaching time in the week. Tuition fees are nonrefundable and cannot transfer into another month.
Please attempt to attend your regularly scheduled lessons as make-up lessons are not guaranteed. If a student misses a lesson due to illness, Jaime will try her best to offer a make-up lesson. Please note that because she travels to teach, this will not always be possible. Make-up lesson times depend on cancellations by other students and are rare. Jaime cannot offer make-up lessons outside her normal teaching hours. Make-up lessons will not be given on weekends and holidays.
A note about communicable illness – please do not expose Jaime, and by extension her numerous other students, to colds, flus and other communicable illness. Jaime reserves the right to decline a lesson if she deems a student to be visibly ill. If student or teacher falls ill, an online lesson is a great alternative!
If Jaime arrives at your home for your lesson and you are not there, she will text you and wait 10 minutes. The lesson time cannot be extended to cover the delay. No refund or make-up lesson will be offered.
If Jaime must miss a lesson (for example, due to illness or hazardous travel conditions) she will offer an online or make-up lesson.
Please provide a written notice of your intention to withdraw a minimum of 30 days prior. In lieu of 30 days notice, a cancellation fee equal to the cost of four lessons will be charged.
In order for Jaime and her students to make the most of their lesson time together, it is essential that the lesson take place in a quiet area, free from distraction. This can be a bit of a challenge in busy households but time that is lost when both student and teacher cannot concentrate will negatively impact a student’s progress. You might be surprised how loud clanging dishes are when the piano room is right next to the kitchen!
Jaime has a strong sensitivity to scents. It would help her immensely if you would kindly remove air fresheners from the space where she will be teaching. Thank you so much!
